problem with i.tape.tm.fast

A friend asked me to post this question to the GRASS User's List:

He is using i.tape.tm.fast to read a Landsat TM image from 8mm tape
into GRASS running on a SGI using Solaris Operating System.  He was
successful for one tape, but has encountered a problem on the others
as follows. After answering the prompts, he hits return, the cpu starts
working, and an error message is repeated to the command line:
"Warning 0 cell file". When he is forced to kill the process, he finds
that no files have been written. Does anyone know what the problem might be.
