SGI binary files and mon.list

Good Morning,

 i'm trying to install Grass4.1 on an SGI, using the binary files from the
moon site . The problem I have is after uncompressing the files and getting
my monitorcap file set up when running d.mon I don't get a listing of
the monitors available.

This is because the mon.list file is empty as well as the other mon.* files ?
What in Grass writes to theses ? I've installed grass4.1 on a sun and an alpha
and haven't had this problem before ?

Are these files bad ? I don't want to have to go through the unpacking process
again , but I may have to .
