Hello to all,

I am a GRASS beginner user with no experience about ARC/INFO, so please forgive
the question's profile.

My problem is to import ARC/INFO files under GRASS.
I have alredy seen on the GRASS Reference Manual the instruction v.in.arc but I
fear I miss somenthing.

In order provide a clear description of my problem at the end of the note I
have pasted few lines of the three files I have.

Now my questions are:

1) Which are the steps I should follow in order to visualize the information
kept in the files ?

2) With the kind of files like the ones I have pasted, once using the v.in.arc
command I think I should chose option polygon as coverage type.
Then I would select .pol as LINES FILENAME and after the file .lab as
LABEL_POINTS FILENAME but what's about the LABEL-TEXT FILENAME ?
In principal it looks like I am going to lose some information, is it really
true ? What can I take from the .items file ?

3) The first step of my activity is to import these files and then to recombine
the classes in order to achive a different kind of classification. As you can
immagine it is extremely important to be sure I wont lose information during
this importation phase. It is reasonable to hope everithing, at the end, will
work properly ? Is there any usefull advice ?

I hope someone could find the time to give me an help.

I can also be contacted at the following Email address:

Thanks a lot

                Alessandro

When the area has ****** as value this means area has a larger number than
could be stored in the item .
