New to Grass

I have just started to use GRASS. I have set up a Location that contains
data imported from Arc. This data is in ungenerate form, but I can't seem
to import it into the program. I have followed the User guide for
importing data in Arc format, but have come up empty.. Any suggestions on
importing this data and setting up mapsets would be greatly appreciated.
