HELP v.to.rast

Hi


I am looking for a tutorial about vector conversion. 

I had some dxf-files (rivers and cities), which I successfully imported with
the v.in.dxf and the v.support command. But now I have to convert these vector
files to the GRASS raster format. I tried it with v.to.rast and r.support, but
all I get is a white surface. I think it has something to do with the category
files. 

I hope somebody can help me and tell me, what I`ve done wrong.
Looking forward to an answer.
