SURFER

I'm learnig to use GRASS. I want to lern of kind of information
I can get easy from GRASS. I compare GRASS with another software.
E.g. SURFACE from Golden Software. My goal is to see surface of
the terrain, to see contours of several levels, to estimate lentghs,
areas, volumens. 
I think GRASS is very complicated, has plenty of small programmes.
SURFACE is much easier to learn.
The third means to have a proper resultat is to make my own code
to calculation of all needed values. Then I have nothing to
learn. I understand very well what where I have, how obtain
the particulary values.
