compiling r.binfer

Hello, 

I am still compiling GRASS on Linux 1.1.59.  GISGEN bailed out while
attempting to compile r.binfer.  Apparently it could not find the 
command lex.  In the makefile it tried to "lex binfer.l"  Does anyone
know what "lex" is and how I can get it?  Thanks.
