I am not too familiar with these GRASS raster input tools, but it sounds 
like they aren't establishing a color table from your xv image, but are 
instead using the GRASS's default color table.  Check in the "colr" 
directory of your mapset, and see if a file exists for your GRASS 
raster.  If there is a file there, then ignore me, but if there isn't, 
then you need to find a way of establishing a file that properly 
translates the raster values to the colors you had in xv.
