Announcement:
GIS DATA SETS (AND MAPS) OF THE BALTIC REGION ONLINE

GRID-Arendal, a node in the UNEP/GRID network
of co-operating environmental data and information centres,
together with the Beijer Institute and Department
of Systems Ecology, Stockholm University, Sweden,
now offers a Baltic Region wide GIS database in IDRISI 
and pcARC/INFO formats online through WWW. 
The database was created as part of an EU Environment 
Research Programme funded project.

The database can be accessed via the GRID-Arendal homepage
http://www.grida.no/ 
or directly 
http://www.grida.no/baltic/

The GIS database extends the entire Baltic Sea drainage area,
which fully or partly cover the following countries:
Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Belorus, 
Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Poland,
The Czech Republic, Slovakia and Germany. 

The following themes are included:
- Administrative Units (1. or 2. sub-national
  level) w/ attributes
- Land Cover (6 classes)
- Coastline
- Meso-scale Drainage Basins (82 subbasins) w/ attributes
- Arable Land Distribution
- Pasture Land Distribution
- Population Density Distribution
- Wetland Distribution

Scales/resolution range from 1 sq.km. / 1:1mill. to 50x50 sq.km.
The map projection is Lambert Azimuthal Equal Area.

Customised maps (in TIF, GIF and EPS formats) prepared for
A4 Landscape Overheads are also available.
