I think what you have downloaded is enough for a start.
If you have succesfully compiled the code then I think what you need is some 
documentation. You can find the tutorials, user's and programmer's manual in th
Grass directory but at the moment I cannot remember where exactly.
If you use ftp you can find the subdirectory containig the documentation
and download it. It is provided as .ps (postscript) files and you need a .ps 
printer to print them out.
Alternatively I have all the documentation in .ps files and you can connect wit
h me and copy them.
Are you in a instute in Greece?
