v.digit and SUMMAGRAPHICS/CALCOMP

Hello,
I have a SUMMA MGIII that can pretend to be a CALCOMP;
Would like to digitize in GRASS but have not been able to 
Have tried in SPARC sunos4.1.3, and the sparc solaris2.4
binaries which have CALCOMP drivers and config files (ccf* etc.)
The digitizer works on Microstation/NT with SUMMA drivers;
Any way on the sunos machine v.digit hangs and grass hangs
at the "writing plus file..." point

On the solaris machine we get "digitizer read error.shall
we continue y/n?" at the digitizer registration point.

We have set up the sunbox ports for RS232, eepromed the
ttya-ignore-rts-dtr=true etc. Nothing

Im not even sure  any more as to how the cable should look like
on the sunbox end.

For now we are creating dxf file in Microstation and v.in.dxf
into grass, then running v.support. seems to work but we cannot
d.zoom on these vector (binary) files that are output
from the process. 
Please help.
