The Regional Science Institute (RSI), Sapporo, Japan, provides various
planning and consulting services to local, prefectural and national
governments as well as private engineering firms. As part of its
preparations to establish a Center for Geospatial Analysis in Hokkaido, RSI
wishes to recruit a GIS specialist as soon as possible.

Scope: Under minimal direction, the GIS specialist is responsible for the
following:
1) Manage the Geographic Information Systems Section at RSI and take an
active role in the technical design and operation of GIS service contracts
2) provide basic consulting and training for staff of various backgrounds
in equipment and software operations
3) Assist in selecting and purchasing new hardware and software, upgrading
existing hardware, installing various programs, and perform necessary
reconfigurations, testing and debugging
Qualifications:
A tertiary degree in an area emphasizing quantitative spatial information
systems in an environmental or natural resource management context. Working
knowledge of GRASS and ARC/INFO GIS for geo-spatial analysis and
modelling and strong computer skills are essential.
