file types

hi there,

i'm trying to get data from grass back to another gis which only
wants to import a grass file of type 1.  anything i create in grass
using mapcalc or other functions seems to create type 3 files.

any ideas on how to create a type 1 raster file?  i've tried simply
modifying the header, but the import fails.
