mapgen how to!

Stephan,

It looks like you dont even have the GRASS directories added to your path.
When I start GRASS I get the following added to my path:

/4.13_bin/bin:/4.13_bin/scripts:/4.13_bin/garden/bin:/4.13_bin/tools:

then when I start MAPGEN I get the following added to my path:

/usr/ucb:/bin:.:/4.13_bin/mapgen/bin:/4.13_bin/mapgen/interface:

the /usr/ucb is a solaris2.x thing for the echo command. You can take this
out. The scripts are written using the echo that understands "-n" syntax.

Do you have bourne shell support???? If you dont have bourne support the
easiest way to fix this is to hardcode the software paths in your system setup
files (.chsrc or .login or .profile). Be sure to add the GRASS paths as
well as the MAPGEN paths.

Additionally, make sure you have the command gzip and gzcat linked to the
GISBASE/tools directory. MAPGEN uses these tools in the dig.to.geo and
make.line commands.

I couldn´t start _any_ of the scripts in $GIS/mapgen/interface, because
for
some reason - which I don´t understand - the PATH variable didn´t
change. All
the other setup succeded, as you might see from my excerpt from using
env
right at the mapgen-prompt (s. attachment).

> PATH=/usr/ucb:/bin:.:$GRAPH/bin:$GRAPH/interface:$PATH
       ~~~~~~~~
	This path doesn´t exist on our machine; is it necessary?
