GISGEN error with GRASS4.2

I was running GISGEN today for the first time on an MkLinux system and 
received the following error

/usr/local/bin/gmake4.2 transform
make: /usr/bin/make: cannot execute binary file
make: *** [transform.lib] error 126
GISGEN failure of STEP: src/mapdev/libes

I am not sure how to apporach this problem, any ideas?
