[q] buffering!

Hi! GRASS-users..
I have one map which is a vector format. and I'd like to create a buffer
around specific polygon in the map.. 
I know some GIS softwares include such functions.. for example, ARC-INFO..
but I'm not sure if I can do that in GRASS..

What can I do that? 

Any information would be appreciated..
