Hi Dieter
This is quite simple. Take the category file ("cats" directory) and use 
your favorite editor to turn it into a rules file for r.reclass.

1:4	becomes		1 = 4
2:7			2 = 7
3:4			3 = 4
etc.

Then,
r.reclass i=old_map o=new_map < rules_file
