What I want is grass to read this file in.
I'm using grass5.0 beta8 (thankyou for putting r.in.tiff back in) and beta7
on solaris 2.7.
By the way grass compiles and runs really nice on solaris 2.7. The new
beta8 compiled with out a hitch.
I had to add the following stuff to solaris first.
tiff libraries get from sunfreeware.com
jpeg libraries get from sunfreeware.com
tcl get from sunfreeware.com
tk get from sunfreeware.com
gcc newest version get from sunfreeware.com
gnu make get from sunfreeware.com
ln -s g77 to f77
And run in Openwindows instead of Common Desktop

My qestions are how do I get the data in.
How do I read the header and make sense of it ?
ie. what bands are present, what is the image size etc.

Equipment I have access to, an 8mm tape, new compaq dlt, 1 inch tape machine
i.e.
Software I have access to PCI ESI PACE, Coreldraw, Photopaint, ARCINFO
7.2.1, GRID

Background,
I have landsat 5 tm data from radar sat as files on a cdrom and not on tape.
and they look like this;
