[GRASSLIST:1713] installing grass on mac os x

[Otter]

Just installed grass for mac os x from binaries. seemed to go ok (during 
installation, at first permission to install was denied, su'd to root 
and installed there -- not sure if this was desireable) . . . but 
attempting to run gets the following repeatedly:

[localhost:~] otter% grass5
WELCOME TO GRASS              Version 5.0beta11         February 2001
[blah, blah . . .]
Hit RETURN to continue

Starting GRASS ...
Error opening terminal: vt100.
Invalid resource file, removing /Users/otter/.grassrc5
[localhost:~] otter%


(get similar result when logged as root)
any help appreciated,
