I checked that. There always is more than 400 MB free.
One more point : after trying to decompress the file, one of the leftover
temp files has (rowsxcolumns) size, so if this file is written out
linearly as it is decompressed , the compressed file can't be much too
short. Also, d.rast crashes after it seems to have finished (the display
looks correct)
