[GRASSLIST:2587] Masking Areas in Vector file selectively

Good day,

Hope you can help me.

Is it possible to select a specific area/polygon from a vector file and
use it as a mask - either by converting it to raster and using r.mask or
a vector method (? I'm not aware of any).
