Briefly, it should suffice to use:

export CVSROOT=:pserver:grass-guest at intevation.de:/home/grass/grassrepository
cvs login
[use "grass" as the password]
cvs -z3 checkout -r releasebranch_11_april_2001_5_0_0 grass
