  Sir ,
         this is how i interpreted what you said,

1.   Before rasterization of vector file,
        Run g.region  vect=myrast
      d.zoom and select the desired contour area in the vector 
file.

2.   convert the vector contour map to raster.

3.   g.region raster=myrast  zoom=myrast

4 .  d.rast myrast

But even then the same problem persists.
