Hi Malte,

In my distribution of GRASS 5.0.0 (from the official site www.grass.itc.it/ 
- Linux) it works fine.

I reclassed the to null (e.g. administrative region) and the rest to some 
other value. Multiple buffers work too.

r.buffer in=admin_reg out=buff distances=2500,5000,10000

Did you mean that?
