Thanks Eric,

As mentioned in my previous posting,
Keith's suggestion solved my gripe, by using swap to expand memory past
any amount required by r.proj. However, it would be much better for r.proj, upon
running out of memory, to die
gracefully (and not hang a Linux box!) with some kind of suggestion
to expand memory or swap. Knowing this months ago would have saved me
much trouble. Thanks for the suggestions.
