[GRASSLIST:3287] exporting grass file into ArcInfo format

Hi, 
As a very novice guy in GRASS, I am in trouble with
converting grassfile format into ArcInfo format. I
have a file coastline.xyz that is using by grass
currently. I am in need to use this in arcinfo too. I
tried converting using r.out.ascii and r.out.arc
commands. It is giving warning as "Unable to open
raster map [coastline.xyz] in mapset [PERMANENT]." 

First of all, I am not sure in which directory I have
to keep the file abc.xyz so that I can issue
r.out.ascii or r.out.arc command. 
I have installed grass4.3 binary in linux from.

I have attached sample data here.
