[GRASSLIST:4668] shapefiles processing

Hi,
  I have problems with polygon shapefiles import (v.in.shape) to GRASS (the
shapes are not 100% topology clean). Please, what is the status of the new
5.1  shapefile-reading architecture? Will I be able e.g.

- use this type of data?
- directly derive float-point raster from shapefile attributes?
