[GRASSLIST:4560] .tmp files

For a while I've been having trouble with disk space and assumed that
since I was working with large data files, that it was just a part of
life.

I was looking for more ways of getting space (I already have all my
sites files bzip2'ed and have to bunzip2 them before use) when I came
across some hidden files in the grass database.

$GISBASE/$LOCATION_NAME/$MAPSET/.tmp for my various mapsets was using
20GB of disk space. Since I only have an 80GB drive, this added up to a
significant drain.

Some of these files were quite recent. Some were months old.

I haven't seen any discussion about the need for housekeeping these
hidden directories, so maybe others aren't aware of them either.

Comments anyone?

Regards
Gordon

Machines running Windows are by far the most popular,
with about 90% machines in use worldwide. Linux users, on
the other hand, may note that cockroaches are far more
numerous than humans, and that numbers alone do not
    denote a higher life form.
