In short:

1) Import the map into a XY location

2) i.group, i.target to the UTM location

3) Then run i.points to reference the 4 corners (or anything nearby). You
need to know the coordinates of these 4 points which are then entered into
the terminal window of i.points.
Check the error with "Analyse" menu entry

4) Then i.rectify it with 1st order into the UTM location.
   An email arrives when the job is done.

4) leave the XY location, switch to the UTM location and verify
again with other GIS data.
