I am a new user to GRASS. However I am familiar with cartography in general.

I have a TIFF extract from the California State Topo! program. When I overlay it (outside of GRASS) with other GIS data that is in UTM, it doesn't line up. So I guess I need to reproject the Topo! extract. I understand the overall steps to take in GRASS to reproject something into UTM projection, and have taken a stab at them. However the number one sticking point has been a lack of information on what projection the Topo! map extract is in. I have all the other information that should be needed, such as the coordinates of the image corners.

Does anyone know what projection the Topo! state series is in? I've asked at Topo! support and they did not know. I'm a bit surprised that National Georgraphic Maps would not post this information either in the product docs or on their website.
