[GRASSLIST:5451] Mapserver: location name -> location coords

Hi GRASS users,

I am interested in the following query on Mapserver: specify the name of
the location ("Chicago"), and to see the result as map of Chicago
vicinity? Is it better to import the shapefiles into GRASS and work with
internal GRASS vector data format? If not, then how to extract the
vicinity coordinates from shapefile?

Yet one more question. If entire vector vector data is stored in
PostgreSQL, then the previous query would be easy. But, I'm not shure
whether it's possible to store entire vector data layer (including
vertex, and nodes) in PostgreSQL table. Is it possible? Is it a smart
approach?

Thanks,

Rado
