An alternative is to download precompiled binaries:
http://mpa.itc.it/markus/grass57/macosx/index.html

If you installed GDAL from FINK, it is missing OGR.
That's why it won't compile. Try the GDAL-CVS or fetch
GDAL/OGR for MacOSX from above site.
