A couple of points:

1. If one of the files ~/GIS_ERROR_LOG or $GISBASE/GIS_ERROR_LOG
exists and is writable, any error messages will be written to that
file.

2. If the environment variable GRASS_STDERR is set, error messages
will not be emailed.
