There is sites API in 5.7, but it reads points + attributes 
from vector maps. Using this API it is very easy to port old s.*
modules. s.in/out.ascii in 5.7 are examples how to port old modules.
You have to use for example gisprompt = "old,vector,vector";
This is not prefered way how to update modules, it is better 
to use vector API.
