It is well known that INDIA inspite of the large
financial investment needed various Governamental and
Semi-Governamental agencies use ESRI's ARC-INFO
(Coverages, E00,Shape files)for GIS, INTERGRAPH's
Microstation (DGN files)for Elegant Hardcopy Outputs,
and ERDAS for Satellite image interpretation(Image
files).
Suggesting case histories or exercises in using GRASS
as an alternative, without totally shifting to GRASS
environment is what is expected by all those users in
their thousands.
Examples: Openoffice can save in MS-OFFICE *.DOC
formats, and work with them too to begin with.
On similar lines GRASS can open ESRI's coverages, and
E00 files make modifications and save them back as E00
files.
Contributions of Case histories how GRASS is
successfully utilised as an alternative can give a big
push to the popularity of GIS in developing countries
in ASIA.
