Hi.

I'm trying to get a rainfall map from s.surf.rst. My area of interest is
120Km^2 with 5 pluviometric stations on the carbonatic structure. I've
extended the area to 1500km^2 so as to include all the bordering
stations outside the above 5 stations I've already mentioned. This
should help me have more defined boundary conditions. RIght?
In all I've 25 stations for 1500Km^2 in a mountainous area 500->2200m
above sea level.

I'm giving annual mean rainfall as %z value for s.surf.rst. Being in a
mountanous area, I'm tuneing the tension so that a don't get any
overshoots. It occours at more or less tension=80.
What I'm trying to figure out is the meaning of the smoothing parameter
in this case of rainfall data. I would think to set the smooth parameter
to zero as in the stations the interpolation should pass exactly
through the rainfall data. But I also thought that I could assign the
smooth value for every station according to the variance of the mean
annual rainfall. Would this latest approach have more sense? How could I
have to tie the smooth value to the variance in a proportional way for
every single station?

MOst probably I'll get better results using s.vol.rst but I wanted to
get the smotthing factor clear when applied to rainfall data.

Any help is welcom
Thanks and cheers.
