[GRASSLIST:6308] SRTM-import problem on SUSE 7.3

Dear GRASSLIST-member,

I compiled GRASS 6.0 + selected Libs on SUSE 7.3 from source. There were no
severe problems encountered - besides gdal. From version 1.2.2 on
(including 1.2.2) compilation on gclib < version 2.3 is not possible. So I
had to use the gdal version 1.2.1. I used this in combination with
gdal-grass-1.2.3. GRASS 6.0 starts and I can import and work with spearfish.

But when I try to import srtm-data I fail.
The import runs without error. But when I display the result, there is just
a white monitor.

I run the same site using GRASS 6.0 on cygwin without any problems.

OK, Suse 7.3 is old-fashioned and I can use GRASS 6.0 on cygwin. It is just
the first time, that I encountered a backward incompatability on Linux and
I cannot believe there is no workaround.

Any idea?

Thanks in advance.

Karl Broich
