Ravi,

If you are using the Mac version with Lorenzo Moretti¹s binaries, there is a
problem with the new version of gdal. Lorenzo supplied a patch which is on
his site and on mine.

There is an even newer version that is available on his site, using Aqua
tcltk. I will try to get it posted to  my mirror tomorrow or the next day.
