[GRASSLIST:9229] Resolution while onverting vector to raster...

Hi guys...
I have heard that using r.buffer instead of v.buffer si faster, so I am 
planning to convert my vector layer (it's a line one and describes rivers on 
a country) to raster.
How do you select the optimal resolution of the region?
I think that 10m can be ok couse the rivers are not so big...is my idea good, 
when you need to set the resolution before doing operations like that one?
