[GRASSLIST:735] elements in G_find_file()

Hello friends
I am newbee to GRASS. 
While searching for a file using G_find_file(), i couldn't understand meaning of first argument which is char * elelment. Programmers manuals doesn't cleared my doubt. Any help is welcome
