HI All, sorry for ressurecting such an old thread...
as it seems usual, it is GDAL related.

Actually they were not in lat-lon, but polyconic. Imported with help
from Maciek and  Frank Warmerdam. EPSG has wrong eastings and
northings fo this projection.
So, no longer an issue.

OGR tells this:
