[GRASSLIST:10811] Error in startup script: couldn't execute "ps.map": no such file or directory

Dear GRASS users,

I Installed grass-6.0.0 on mandriva 2006.
On running grass , I get the following error
Error in startup script: couldn't execute "ps.map": no such file or 
directory
    while executing
"exec ps.map -p"
    (procedure "DmPrint::init" line 14)
    invoked from within
"DmPrint::init"
    (procedure "main" line 32)
    invoked from within
"main $argc $argv"
    (file "/home/bnagesh/grass-6.0.0/etc/dm/d.m.tcl" line 894)

After realising that ps.map isnt getting compiled , i tried compiling it 
manually
using make command in the ps directory.
I got the following error:
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lgrass_I
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[1]: *** 
[/home/bnagesh/grass-6.0.0/dist.i686-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ps.map] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/bnagesh/grass-6.0.0/ps/ps.map'

Later i realised that in ~/grass-6.0.0/lib,   libgrass_I.so , 
libgrass_Iortho.so,  isnt created.
Can anyone help me get rid of these errors.
Has anybody compiled grass-6.0.0 on mandriva 2006 successfully?
