Just out of curiosity, what version of vnc2swf do most people use - the C
version, or the python version? Any caveats to be concerned with either way?

Yes flash is a nice small format.
There is a free tool available to create flash
tutorials from a vnc session.
http://www.unixuser.org/~euske/vnc2swf/
There is a sample tutorial about r3.out.vtk available at:
http://www-pool.math.tu-berlin.de/~soeren/grass/modules/
It would be great if we can provide beginners tutorials
covering themes like:
* what is grass
* creation of a new location
* importing data into grass
* using gis.m
* image data analaysis
* vector data editing
...
GRASS will be much easier to learn for beginners if we
can provide those tutorials.
Best regards
Soeren
