[GRASS-user] Processing DEM

I've download some STRM unfinished level 3 30m DEM for several  
researches of my lab from the GLCF, I can't use them because GRASS  
and QGIS don't read the values as Z-Value and a 0 area contour. I  
know that I have to reclassify the DEM and cancel the 0 values but I  
don't know why. Some hints?
