pick x0 (or any of the x options). A graphics window opens (called 
Grass 4.1 x0) but I then get the following error:

Error - Could not complete locking process for monitor <x0>.
Lock file is /usr/grass/locks/landmark/mon.463476
Problem selecting x0. Will try once more

After this, d.display says I have to run d.mon to choose a display 
device. 

Have I missed an initialization step?
