[GRASS-user] Forwards and backwards RMS error in i.rectify (GRASS6.4.0RC3)

Dear GRASS users and developers, 

where can I find an explanation about the meaning of forwards and backwards
RMS error in i.rectify? They seem different from the x and y errors computed
and displayed in previous versions of GRASS. Are they two different
functions? In that case which is used to rectify the map?
