Just to understand: you compiled it yourself?

Did you try the precompiled package at
http://grass.osgeo.org/grass64/binary/mswindows/cygwin/

(requires a X Server for the GRASS monitors)

or the native winGRASS version with new graphical user interface:

(nightly winGRASS binary snapshots: http://wingrass.fsv.cvut.cz/grass64/ )
