[GRASS-user] Cut Subscene

Hello,

i'm working with grass 6.4.1 and have a huge quickbird scene which i 
want to cut, so that i only work with a small sample area.
i created a mask and performed all operations, working very well. but 
when i export the test area as geotiff it has the same extent as the 
huge base image.
also tried to copy the masked area with mapcalc, same problem.

what is the best way to cut huge images into pieces without loosing data 
information?
