Hi Vaclav, you might be interested have a look at shade.clr.sh from GRASS 5,

never ported when r.shaded.relief was, but there's no reason it couldn't
become a new -c flag for that module if there was demand for it.

also you might try the new output= option for d.shadedmap. See the
output= help page example for a quick demo.
