[GRASS-user] GRASS GIS 7.0.0beta4 released

We are pleased to announce the 4th beta release of a new version of
GRASS GIS 7.0.0.
Shortly the  GRASS GIS 7.0.0RC1 will be published (planned: 29 Dec 2014).

Between 7.0.0beta3 and the current 7.0.0beta4 around 700 updates have
been applied.


MOST IMPORTANT CHANGES in BETA4:

Major efforts in standardization of parameter and flag names for a
better user experience:
* a few map types have been renamed:
  * "rast" -> "raster"
  * "vect" -> "vector"
  * "rast3d" -> "raster_3d"
* On command line parameter names can be abbreviated (but not
  in Python scripts)
* Old parameter names are still recognized, and, as a help, the command issues
  a message about the respective new parameter name.


EXAMPLES FOR THE RENAMED MAP TYPES:

  g.region rast=map   -->   g.region raster=map

  g.region vect=map   -->   g.region vector=map
